In the shadow of Knockfierna
Near the lovely garden town
Came the blight that caused starvation
Plus oppression from the crown
They cried aloud for justice
Rent and Taxes fair
For food to quell their hunger
But no one heard their prayer
They were left to die of hunger,
On the road, and on the ditch,
By the landlords and the agents
To satisfy the rich
These grand and noble people
Their likes we'll never know
Reduced to starving wretches
Abandoned by the foe
Today we all remember
That proud and gentle race
And pray they are together
Before Gods own loving face.
